Calvert Cliffs State Park

March 2, 2017

Calvert Cliffs State Park sits on the edge of the Chesapeake Bay, south of Washington DC. The cliffs themselves are made from a soft sediment, rich in fossils, left over from a coastal ocean that existed in the Miocene era. It is a common occurance to find 18 million year old sharks' teeth and petrified shellfish remains on the sandy shore.

Due to the fact that parking is some 2 miles away from the beach, the area has a relatively low number of visitors and it is easy to feel like you have been transported back in time, to a place outside the ever pervasive influence of humankind.
